Special week capped off with another special Verizon Heritage victory

Published Monday, April 21st, 2008

When I was getting ready Sunday morning, I was thinking about how this was going to be the final chapter to my enchanted memoirs, and I decided there was going to be a Part II, because Boo was going to win. This was the final chapter for this year, but starting next year, there will be a new chapter.

What a wonderful tournament. Win or lose, either way, Boo would have come away from this tournament as a winner because of how the whole tournament has embraced him. Everybody just embraced Boo, and me, and his friends, Brent and Sunny, who were here with us all week.

We were talking about how there's just no way you could describe to someone the experience we've had here. You would have to have walked the course and seen the way this whole tournament embraced Boo to understand it.

If you saw me out on the course Sunday, I was probably green because I was so nervous. When he made that putt on 14, that's when I finally felt OK, but I still couldn't watch.

Boo's dad, Tom, probably wasn't even watching at home. He never watches, because he gets so nervous. A lot of times when I'm watching on Sundays, Tom goes in the other room and watches something else.

I've been kind of joking all week about getting Boo to buy me a house here. I could have dual-citizenship in Milton, Fla., and Hilton Head Island. We have a seven-hour drive home today, so I guess I'll have plenty of time to talk him into it.

I guess I'll end by making sure I thank everyone for making this week so special. There was my pro-am team of John, Robert and John and my caddie, Jim. And of course, Steve Wilmot and the tournament staff, and the staff at Harbour Town Golf Links. Then, all the golf fans who told me every day they loved my articles. And a special thanks to The Island Packet, and especially Justin Jarrett for sharing my enchanted memories.

I can't wait to do it again next year.

Patsy Weekley is recounting her experiences this week for The Island Packet as her son, Boo, defends his Verizon Heritage title.
